the immediacy and spontaneity of a raw environment is my greatest inspiration.
My art making is thus a response to the intrinsic joy and beauty i experience
being immersed in the ocean, landscape and sky.
“I am forever walking upon these shores, betwixt the sand and the foam,
the high tide will erase my footprints, and the wind will blow away the foam”
– Khalil Gibran (1883-1931)
I grew up on a headland at Mona Vale; one of Sydney’s Northern Beach suburbs; during the mid 50’s to the late 7O’s. After finishing art school and teacher’s college I travelled to and lived in Hawaii, California and the coast of France, Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Returning to Australia a year later I began art teaching on the North Coast of NSW, and exhibiting in various galleries and entering in art prizes.
During the 80’s I lived in and around Byron Bay teaching at Trinity Catholic College Lismore and establishing a small clothing label called “Arumba’ Designs; successfully selling on the Gold Coast.
In 1991 I moved to Lord Howe lsland, where I lived for 16 years, establishing my own practice as an artist, full-time; and building a studio/gallery called “lslandspiritart .
ln 2006 I returned to the North Coast to settle on a property at Woombah in the Clarence Valley; close to Bundjalung National Park and the north coast of the Clarence River. I live and work on my art here; and on a catamaran in Fiji with my husband lan.
